DAY 10
Freeze freeze thou bitter sky
Thy sting is not so sharp
as the disapproving sneer
from someone loved
Most friendship is feigning
Most loving mere folly
Shakespeare knew it
So do I
Most friendship is feigning
Most loving mere folly
DAY 9
Sheherazade
she drop feeds all the
titbits of her life
into his little beak
not too much at once
1001 nights seems daunting
she is not persian
but then neither is he
she must keep him interested
for the next 20 days
or she will lose her head
and after that
when he leaves her nest
her blue bird heart
will burst

DAY 8
Easter
sunny and bright
time to uproot
farmers friends
large thorns clinging
to my shirt and jeans
transforming me into
an echidna
i want to sit on a cushion
and sew a fine seam today
(in your dreams)
and suddenly
the clouds darkened
rushing pulling
washing from the lines
i just make it in before the
crack of lightning
the thwack of thunder
and gales of screaming wind
bending trees to the ground
the old house groans
the rain crashes on
the iron roof like
smashing glass
and i smile
now i can write
read drink coffee
play music
send loving emails
feel safe with all
those pioneer spirits
in this settlers cottage
that lived here before
You rid yourself of those blighters and all their velcro burrs when the rain stops.
ReplyDeleteIt's good trusting the 'old home' that has stood so long - stability, progress and aspiration all in one. Light a fire, put you feet up and 'av a mother's ruin.
Will Do Dude! Smiles.'Care for just the one?'
ReplyDeletePure, single malt for me - Ireland's best discovery!
ReplyDeleteYou are doing great work as you plow right through April. Most NAPOWRIMO efforts begin to feel contrived and obligatory. Not so here. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteSuch little gems of poetry you have here! Each properly transforms your ideas into scenes that are easily visualized.
ReplyDeleteDay 10 : Perhaps. Some friendships require a lot of effort in keeping up, to some extent sometimes when someone might be hurt, one might prefer to be not so honest. Tough one.
Day 9: I really like the reference to 1001 Arabian Nights. The motivation is love, yet towards the end some heartache.
Day 8: old houses can be scary, and often one thinks they could be haunted. And it is original to see that the narrator takes comfort (instead of being afraid) in the nobel strong spirits of the pioneers who once lived in this cottage. Even the weather outside becomes not so dark and awful.
Those becoming friends always make mistakes. The written word is only a fraction of what is meant - clumsily chosen words, wrongly heard.
