she was with me for years
i loved her in my ktichen
i do remember you saying
she was worth nothing
i threw her out to please you
replacing her with something
expensive to impress our friends
not quite realising that I
was worth nothing either
to you or any one we knew
desperate to be worth
something to someone
i set about on the art
of pleasing, pleasing no one
especially not myself
i found her again and now
we pour milk together
she doesn't age or talk
i don't know if she likes me
i don't really care
i like me...a lot , and it shows

And I like this a lot, an almost perfect little poem. Bravo!
ReplyDeleteyou def can not please others all the time...and if that is your goal you will surely fail and feel useless...of course pleasing yourself all the time leads you to be like him...so with all things, its balance...a good pitcher is not a bad thing though...smiles.
ReplyDeleteFinding self to lose it, or losing self to find it. This is a very subtle allegory, quite unassuming but all the more powerful for that.
ReplyDeleteI am glad you found yourself and the picture :)
ReplyDeleteJust have a good cuddle, make your peace together and, excuse my 'French', baiser anyone else!
ReplyDeleteWonderful ekpharsis and allegory. That painting is so beautiful, almost serene and you've used it to create the serenity that comes with self-acceptance: the journey of a lifetime, I guess.
ReplyDeleteI like this a lot, especially the first two stanzas.
ReplyDeletei like the pouring milk together..and we can't please everyone...sometimes it's even hard to please ourselves..ha
