Dverse...Terza Rima Sonnet
your beauty was perfectly preordained
old river god caught a lapis blue nymph
squeezed her mermaid tail and thus you were spawned
you,an aura of orchids eyes dark ink
everyone loved you but cruel you spurned all
Echo besotted with your glow soft pink
embraced you close in scent of musk sweet thrall
but you pushed her aside and broke her heart
she in grief became a sad distant call
you leaned over the pool, your lips apart
fell in love with your image, bold and gold
the face of such beauty beyond high art
Nemesis watching this story unfold
revenged dear Echo restoring her soul
Great use of the form in your myth telling.
ReplyDeletenice...i like your mything...an aura or orchid eyes dark ink...cool description...nice bit of storytelling in form...
ReplyDeleteVery effective, to take that classical myth and them to stretch it out on the canvas of the classical terza rima.
ReplyDeleteGreat and sad, I love all the myths to be retold, and this is one of the best myths to do. I really liked this one
ReplyDeleteBravo, poet. Seriously Cressida, this is very, very good indeed. The rhymes are so natural that they go almost unnoticed, but, read aloud, they give the musicality that is the result of writing terza rima. Another poem I wish I had written ... smiles
ReplyDeleteAch..what ails thee Jock? Harve yu lorst yur mind?:)
ReplyDeleteYou are too kind Sir!x
Nothing like a good payback at the end. Everyone needs a nemesis. Nice run on the form.
ReplyDeleteWell,hardly...being turned into a bunch of fragrant jonquils is not much of a punishment.. Nice looking guys always seem to get around the women!:)
ReplyDeleteNice take on the myth... a wonderful sonnet with a lilting sound
ReplyDeleteThanks kkkaty...this one took a bit of work.
