there they were
leaping lithe baroque goddesses
covered in lapis lazulis and topaz coins
a kindly throng of aging cinderellas
some fluttering scales on flutes
providing tone and lyricism to the ebb and flow
of the event

they danced like swans on the water
at midnight by moon haze
a little pedantic perhaps
resembling an isadora duncan parody/ joke
giving rise to illusory fame in reverie

it was an opportunity for them to leave
their brushes and pans on the shelf
jump out of the humdrum closet
escape the suffocating underground life and breathe
they threw kindling on to the roaring fire
chanting burn burn burn
signalling a charged electricity of anticipation
words could not express their excitement
and for a short time they escaped

their fractured dismal lives of servitude
Nothing is so liberating as a good romp with the nymphs !!!
ReplyDeleteAh - so you have been indulging in a bit of Isadora Duncaning I see !
DeleteEnjoyed this. Everyone needs a break from drudgery, and these girls seemed to know just how to find it!
ReplyDeleteOh do I love this series of photos - the first rather staid, the second sheer joy and abandon, the third, sadly, back at the domestic bucket. LOVE "a kindly throng of aging cinderellas" and the dancing like swans!!!!!!
ReplyDeletecinder Ellas for the modern age ~
ReplyDeleteI love the way you portrayed the other side of life. An escape indeed!
ReplyDeleteAmazing - not only the poem itself but the images you interspersed in between the stanzas. A rich, vivid description. One wonders if they ever did escape their servitude for good.
