Dido's Lament

Based on " Dido and Aeneas " from Virgil's Aeneid.
and Dido's Lament by Purcell

in a matter of minutes
slipping over the horizon
he will be lost to her
forever

everything inside of her
screamed to swim out
climb on board

wave frantically
send up flares
plead with him

there will be other boats
some said wisely
what they did not know

was her heart was grafted
on to those sails
disappearing into the distance

gliding slowly
into the setting sun

leaving her alone
shivering in the soft lapping
of a dark sea

  8. This is so touching and difficult to go through, to let go. Beautifully expressed.

  9. 'There will be other boats', but they are never the same. You capture so well that depth of despair which we have all known. Not all of us, fortunately, are prepared to go to Dido's extremes.

  10. To see a loved one leave like that... we seem to have touched on similar subject this week...

  11. reminds me of the movie of the gal who sewed her dead friends' skin together to make clothing...only in the sense of the pain that is hidden from the observer...the scene of the boat and grafted sail will stick with me as well..oh my..
