deeply caught up in darkness desire ridicule
hurt humiliation platitudes rules
birth sacrifice asking -then receiving
obvious answers in translation -gibberish
the brazen crowd rendering harsh tongued slights
watch the pretty woman with a single flourish
dip locusts and bone into tarragon oil
changing water into orange sky
'lunatic' they cried ' you lived witchcraft
now pay the price'
This poem makes me think: artist or witch? Sometimes the line is blurred between the two, and they can be one and the same. Isn't any creative work an act of harnessing forces? And why must the term witch be so pejorative? Art is alchemy -- the creation of something gold from a morass of thought and feeling.
ReplyDeleteIt takes a master to turn water into orange sky - the creative act in the poem is a direct reflection of your creative act that manifested this poem itself.
