Round Midnight

raincoats
hunched shoulders
wet sidewalks
dim street lights
reflected in
puddles of stale booze

the wailing
of a horn round midnite
muted muffled in  clouds of smoke
brushes on the drum

tschu titika tschu

o so slow
sliced open
to reveal
the sad minor chords
unresolved
hanging
wavering threads
from smoking cigarette butts

tschu titika tschu

staggering home alone
along an alley
back to a walk up
cold water
unheated apartment

greeted by a
dirty doormat
and the dissonant clang
of garbage bin lids

  2. Sad... beautiful writing. Well-captured the life of the lonely man. I could hear the dissonant clang of garbage bin lids. Evocative!

  3. The blue sound surrounding every noir piece of fiction ever written - beautifully evocative, especially with that haunting music in the background.

  4. Ooops, seems to have got lost, my comment.
Was saying how beautifully evocative this is - the blue soundtrack to every noir piece of fiction ever written. I love it!

  8. This is indeed 'the blues.' You really set the scene well.

  9. Way to set the scene with such concise descriptors. Yes the scene plays out so well and the tone cannot be misinterpreted. Favorite stanza that stands out to me,
    "staggering home alone
    along an alley
    back to a walk up
    cold water
    unheated apartment"
    Good job.
