Saturday Afternoon

another hot day
lulled into  a half sleep
by the splashing of the fountain
and tinkling gamelan
in my room framed by frangipani
and palms

lying spread  out
on freshly ironed sheets
the smell of tuber roses
and incense waft through
the folds of the mosquito net
drenching fevered tropical thoughts

i stretch my hand out
to try the cold watermelon slices
 arranged like a flower

ari will come soon
to paint flowers on my toe nails
to brighten my spirit

agus will light the coils
and shake the frangipani
with a stick

sri will place the offerings
and bring  spring rolls

the fountain continues to gurgle
and splash as a gecko
scurries across the wall
hoping to escape my eye

i hope i feel better tomorrow

  5. Sorry you're not well, hoping you feel better. This brought back memories as frangipani was the flower of my wedding bouquet when I got married in the Seychelles.

  6. You have painted a smorgasbord of beautiful colors and sounds that would surely cheer the spirit even as it ails. Hope your travels are triumphant and you're feeling better soon.
