Exile From Main Street

they tear at his heart
gilded words of spite and lies
condemning him to hell

she will not submit
she knows the truth and the light
it visits sometimes

she will leave the mire
of devils and cruelty
she knows love she knows

they walk piously
long trains of exalted words
to fit a concept

and not one of them
has been touched by the sweet breath
of the light and truth

hands cover their eyes
the truth lies in the soft night
not in scourge and sin

obsession with sin
deranged dangerous spittle
engulfed by fierce flames

striking fear into young hearts
of punishment and terror
the way of the Lord

and that's what they say
and that's what it's not and that's why
exile is beauty

beauty in silence
beauty in a sigh of love
beauty in the waves

Deo Gratias

  1. definitely not the way to win anyone with striking fear into their hearts...love is gentle and kind...and never found easily on the main road..

  2. this strikes a very personal note for me...in my shunning by the church at an early age...hell fire and brimstone...and still much to learn of love...

  3. This takes a more positive (and very Joycean) view of exile - freedom from some of the contraints of repressive authority - the spittle line was especially vivid and wonderful for me. k.

  4. "Here comes the time, when people will behave like madmen, and if they see anybody who does not behave like that, they will rebel against him and say: "You are mad", - because he is not like them."

Remember the "Yurodivy"; one who acts as a fool in the eyes of others. S/he is irritating and feigns insanity, pretends to be silly, or provokes shock or outrage by deliberate unruliness.

The world is, has always been and will always be a place hostile to the sensitive and loving.

    1. Yep and a lot of the hostility comes from our own ranks unfortunately. Never mind, birds of a feather ( so to speak..)This flocking may draw unwanted attention methinks and result in protest, vilification and conjecture. Great..let's flock Babe!(chortles)

  5. Now I understand
What you tried to say, to me
And how you suffered for your sanity
And how you tried to set them free:
They would not listen; they did not know how --
    Perhaps they'll listen now.

  6. The xile of romantic love nourishes so much of our vital forces, akways ready to be oppressed by those who hate freedom.
