Dropping The Load
back bowed and bent
under the yoke
carrying the heavy load of poison
slights betrayal unkindness
he decided to throw off the lot
not one by one but altogether
stood upright stretched his arms and neck
smiled breathed and no longer cared
about the good opinion of others
cultural expectations
had been killing him slowly
putting the indoctrination
lies pumelled at him
diurnally in a huge cannon
he lit the fuse and blew it
all to kingdom come
scattered confetti
to the four corners
of the earth
living in the light
with eyes straight ahead and upwards
was a much better option
than staring downcast on to the dirt

it is a much better life if one can accomplish it...not worrying at the thought of others...
ReplyDeleteyeah..good decision to throw off the things that burden us...let go of the pain..lift the eyes upward..
ReplyDeleteYes again!
DeleteNow that's a good kind of letting go - but so hard to achieve in a society where we measure each other by what we have and what we do, and where appearances seem to be everything.
ReplyDeleteAgree entirely...not easy to take on the whole world and its empty values !
Deletefinding the inside truth is a tricky business. great poem.
