Coloured Paper

it's only bits of coloured paper
blu tacked to a wall

it's not the mona lisa

but

it takes me to a place
of joy
of such intense joy
of such heights
in my memory

where the sistine chapel
could never take me

where i left my heart
shredded into a million pieces

and

if i could never go back
to collect them

i would finally understand
what the loss of  salvation
felt like

  1. you have portrayed the intensity of your feelings well in this poem. sometimes it is the small things that really resonate.

  2. ... riveting as I wonder if it's a handmade card that caused so much to spill out..

  7. Curious.
Having lost salvation (apparently) I don't miss it as fondly as you poem does. :-)
THis pic is not the "coloured paper blue tack to a wall" that you write about, is it. Must be something a child put up, a lover?

It is true that the simplest of images, if tied to memories mean so much more than the greatest art. I am surprised that people don't decorate their house differently. Ours if full of our kids' silly art and photos of playing on vacations or in the yard. Much more meaningful than store bought generics of 'the greats'.

    Thanx for making me think.

PS -- I like the new header photo on your blog

  8. Color is so evocative of emotion, as are both the image and your words. This felt to me like a story I would like to hear and understand. Beautiful.

  9. Clever write - it is surprising what odd simple memento's hold in our heart.
