Guardian Angel
A Clarian Sonnet in pentameter for dverse
aa bb cc dd ee ff gg
he lectures me on morals and on code
when all the time he really is a rogue
and like my father worries me to death
with all the things that can go wrong in depth
he cares for me and thinks that i am strange
living my life on the vast open range
but it is mine to make all my mistakes
sometimes i even get a well earned break
he hovers over me like a big dove
my guardian angel whom i do so love
he keeps me company in the dark night
prays for me, holds my hand until it's light
i'm glad he is here only in spirit
for we might fight pushing friendship to limits

Ha, wonderful touches of humour. Love it!
ReplyDeleteA wry commentary on guardian angels - or the conscience, one interpretation might make of it. And a credible rendition in the Clarian sonnet framework.
ReplyDeleteA very entertaining and quite visual write. And, yes, probably a good thing he's only there in spirit! Nicely done!

A nice take on the guardian angel as a big dove...and I like the lightness in your ending line ~
ReplyDeleteHa - very clever. The 'friend' slowly morphs into spirit, as your take on him/it becomes more and more real. K>
ReplyDeleteha. i would probably get in a fight with my guardian angel as well...guess i appreciate them over all but...smiles....fun take on the form...
ReplyDeleteGuardian Angels do not have bodies or a gender. Only Fallen Angels do and you wouldn't want to become entangled with one.
ReplyDeleteThis really tender and puts life into the form with your usual creative flair and irony. Here the latter is gentle, and the ending put all into focus so that we can still carry away the lesson of the morality tale. :)
ReplyDeleteI especially like the first two lines.
ReplyDeleteYeah, respect, love the way you did this!
