you sometimes danced alone
i tried to create a pas de deux
but it only resulted in atonal
dissonant catastrophe and tumbles
i refused to look down at your feet
i knew ours were not a good match
so i loped louche along with bruised
squashed toes constantly trodden on
one day
i threw my ballet pumps out of the window
i don't miss them i don't miss dancing
a wall flower does not need them
anyway
i can still sing
to each their own...sing if that is your heart, dance if that....i think we have to find what works best for ourselves...
ReplyDeletegreat metaphor here...sometimes it's hard to dance in sync...
ReplyDeletewell if you can sing, why not... its hard to dance in synch with someone ~
ReplyDeleteyes if singing's your thing then sing on ~
ReplyDeletewe all have particular skills ~
great symbolic ~
shine on ~ ~ Lib ~
dancing is syncopation, communication.
ReplyDeletebut the wallflower's not a communicator? maybe.
I like the ending stanza....''I can still sing''
great solution (answer) to the conversation.
good job.
There is already a lot of effort but it seems like it is just not meant to be. The ending speaks of an alternative, which is an optimistic conclusion. Enjoyed reading this. :)

Great write!
ReplyDeleteGreat metaphor for finding/remembering your true self. I like the use of the unmatched feet how you know they are but refuse to look. It's really like that sometimes.
