Guess Who Is Not Coming For Dinner?

all those years ago

you arrived
just before Christmas

i invited you
because you would be alone

you were not welcome
at your boyfriend's family

there was no need to ask why

you endured all kinds of rejection
and insults from them but still married him

the sigh of relief
was palpable
when i first met them

me
very blonde white
with matching children
and the right intonation

your never overcame your bitterness
you refused to face the truth

and for too many years
you took it out on me

i wish i had never invited you

  8. Sad ..... a story within a story too. Is the regret inviting her - or meeting her ex?

Be sure you did the right thing in sharing Christmas with her, regardless of the eventual outcome.

  9. She is still married..If I were a racist I would never have invited her or befriended her. Unfortunately my views are not widely shared amongst a certain lot. Her family in law would have preferred a package like me and made that fairly obvious to her .As a soft target I became her whipping boy for the ills of society. Yes do regret inviting her initially.
The right thing is definitely a very costly exercise...but we learn and I am no longer a soft package ( now - one of those boxes you can drop out of a twenty storey window and does not crack:)

And I am not answering any more questions about poems...regard this as your Christmas treat Doddles:)

  10. Bitterness can twist people and make them lash out and harm even the hand extended in order to save them...
    Nicely written.

  11. How is it that by being kind to others you are cruel to yourself? A leopard is known by its spots, humans are much more difficult to fathom.
