messing about in boats
to the soft lilt lapping of waves
the seagulls stand to attention
on a white sandy cove near a bay
it's the very best part of the week
men scraping and painting away
in the salt and sea blown breeze
messing about in boats
she stares wistfully at the horizon
listening to the siren call
dives quietly into the sea
to the soft lilt lapping of waves
squints at the lowering sun
glinting on the yacht sail masts
the fleet is coming home at dusk
the seagulls stand to attention
wrapping herself in a towel
she half expects to see him there
remembers this is no longer home
on a white sandy cove near a bay
what an interesting structure, and beautifully executed.
ReplyDeletea bit of a sad emotional touch in the end...nicely done on the form and repetition...it is the best of the day to sit and listen to the gulls and waves...and even the everyday sound of men working and such...
ReplyDeleteNice imagery. It flows very well. Thanks
ReplyDeleteWonderful cascades Cressida! The resultant posting gives a poignant picture of a love on hold! Great take!
ReplyDeleteHank
i have waited and hoped myself... you captured such a moment...thank you.
ReplyDeleteI loved your alliteration, the sound of everyday workers, and most of all, the "lilt-lapping of waves." A gentle portrait of one of those moments on one of those days that makes an impression for life. Cressida, I loved this! Amy
ReplyDeleteExcellent use of form and imagery (cascade for a sea setting? too cool). The images and the form are well woven together and the result is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for your comments.
