A Day in Spring

late night tv
dozed off
had seen this movie before
hollywood blockbuster

the marmalade boys
elongated balletomanes
high powered engine purring
taking up most of the bed

china is snoring
specs askew
history of the high court
collapsed on his heaving chest

this is not a movie
wake up i yell
NY has been bombed
i prod
snorts gurgles mutters hisses
emanate fleetingly
from these sleeping beauties

they collapse back into coma
all, supreme masters in the art of relaxation
nothing can wake the dead

  2. Wow, does this poem ever capture the surprise / the shock of THAT particular moment!! If only it had been a late-night movie..............

  3. I can remember exactly where I was, as well, and I agree, it was so hard to believe that it was real.
