ENVOI DCB
Hurricanes were named in her honour
considered worse than the others
She carved a path of destruction
throughout many lands and sea
Days before, her distant muffled strides
are heard sending thunder messages to flee
Scuttling running hiding, quickly, flee
for your lives. Pride and honour
will not save you from her strides
You will sink like the others
into the grave of the sea
if you ignore her warning of destruction
She was born a foe to destruction
A lying minotaur caused her to flee
into the waves of the sea
where she salt drenched her honour
to camouflage herself like the others
superficial sea sprites avoiding giant strides
But strides will be strides
wreaking havoc in paths of destruction
and fear of befalling the fate of others
she made a decision to flee
clasping a few threads of honour
swam underwater and out of the sea
Her sense of loss and love of the sea
brought tears and made savage her strides
as she flaunted her badge of honour
skill charm kill with facile destruction
at will,no longer needing to flee
from the strong or powerful others
Defusing the land mines of others
without threat she returned to sea
invincible controlled without need to flee
Could combat the crushing sneering strides
with her inexorable brand of destruction
juggling yoyos of pride and honour
She..finally,peters out to sea
grieving unleashed at the devasting destruction
of her love, her terrible love for the others
The sestina is what I will euphemistically call a 'challenge'
ReplyDeleteToo much of this sort of caper
could take the wind out of your sails
knock a bloke for six
or
kill a brown dog stone dead
Geez I like strine n that!
Interesting series, but I wonder if intent and poetic discourse is not sacrificed to word match?
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, fitting words and phrases to a system is a traditional method.
Poetic discourse, in my case ,is definitely sacrificed to word match .But am chuffed to think there is at least one thing traditional about me even if it is only word matching:) Thank you for taking the time to comment on a very inferior sestina.
