Three's a crowd

at first there were two
and then there were none

and then came the other one
the one that rocked her boat
so vigorously
it created a tidal wave
crashing on to the rocks

she clung
to the splintered wreckage
reciting her mantra
over and over again
he loves me
he loves me not

but
she knew
he loved her not

and
she knew
she loved him to
distraction
because
he loved her not

and now there are
none

and now there is
nothing

  2. and now there was nothing - such a sad ending and the whole poem expresses the pain of loving someone who does not love back. a poignant and somber write done well. thanks for sharing it.

  3. It seems like the case all to often, especially with women but I've been there too..... the heart wants what the heart wants.... It's a different animal altogether, and it causes more pain to our psyche than anything else I think... Your poem reflects a very astute read on life.... your imagery is colorful while using plain English words that I can understand..... That is poetry..... in my estimation.....
